Hi and welcome to Awesome Drones. I am interested in small “moving or rotary wing” aircraft. This site is is a discussion about Drones as compared to Helicopters. Other Aircraft are known as “fixed wing” for obvious reasons. The information on this site begins with model or hobby radio controlled aircraft or Drones. Later in the series I will introduce accessories and the larger and more professional type of Drone, these may also incorporate a fixed wing.
I’ll tell you a little about myself, my name is Graham.
Some years ago I had the time to pursue a pastime involving radio controlled and free flight model aircraft. Several ‘lost’ or damaged craft later I gave it up, it go too expensive.
About 3 years ago, my Son-in-law bought a small hobby drone with camera built in etc. He lost it!!.
He subsequently bought another larger one, but couldn’t get the hang of it and gave it to me. Does this sound familiar?
Anyway I had a go, well several in fact, and sort of worked it out, but then life stepped in and I had no time or place to fly it.
So, Son-in-law wanted his drone back to have another go at flying it. Now I’m interested again, so bought a little fold-up drone. I had seen one flying and it looked good. Am still learning by the way, but as this one is small, bad landings aren’t serious.
Why is this ?
During the above period, I became aware of the pitfalls to buying and flying a small aircraft and figured that other people would probably be experiencing the same scenario, so, I will endeavour to give some helpful information.
Reason for Site
The reason for the site is to provide some information about the background history of drones and buying and learning to fly radio controlled model drones. Later, some of the drones I talk about will be the larger, more expensive types that are suitable for commercial operations.
For example:- farmers to relocate missing stock on large properties, checking the condition of planted crops, for real estate use in finding parcels of land with development potential, not forgetting those of us that like to entertain ourselves, and others, with sky view pictures of scenery and just to enjoy flying. There are hundreds of uses for a drone.
If you have any questions, feel free to leave them below and I will try to answer them.
All the best,
