Hi and welcome to Awesome Sites. Do you have an interest in small moving or rotary wing aircraft?
The following posts are mainly about Hobby Drones, or Quadcopters, which are classified as rotary wing aircraft. Helicopters are also rotary wing craft. Other Aircraft are known as fixed wing for obvious reasons.
The information in these Drone posts, begins with model or hobby radio controlled aircraft or Drones. Later in the series I hope to discuss accessories and the larger more professional type of Drone, these may also incorporate a fixed wing.
I’ll tell you a little about myself, my name is Graham.
Some years ago I had the time to pursue a hobby involving radio controlled and free flight model aircraft. Several ‘lost’ or damaged craft later I gave it up, it got too expensive.
About 3 or 4 years ago, my Son-in-law bought a small hobby drone with camera built in etc. While learning to control it, one night, He lost it!!
Moral: Don’t fly your aircraft at night, until you have mastered the controls and are very proficient.
He subsequently bought another larger one, but couldn’t get the hang of it and gave it to me. Does this sound familiar?
Anyway I had a go, well several in fact, and sort of worked it out, but then life, once again, stepped in and I had no time or place to fly it.
Some time later, Son-in-law wanted his drone back to have another go at flying it. Now I’m interested again, so I bought a little fold-up drone, it is a copy/clone of a well known brand, but a lot cheaper. I had seen one flying and it looked good. Am still learning by the way, but as this one is small, bad landings aren’t serious.
Why is this ?
During the above period, I became aware of the pitfalls to buying and flying a small aircraft.Fom there I realised that other people would probably be experiencing the same problems.
Reason for Site
The thinking behind the site, is to provide some information about the background history of drones, and, the buying and learning to fly radio controlled model drones. Later, some of the discussion will be about the larger, more expensive types of drone, that are suitable for commercial operations.
For example:- farmers to relocate missing stock on large properties, checking the condition of planted crops, for real estate use in finding land with development potential, early detection of fires, delivery of parcels and goods, rapid transport of urgent medical supplies, not forgetting those of us that like to entertain ourselves, and others, with sky view panoramic pictures, or videos, of scenery and just to enjoy flying. There are hundreds of uses for a drone.

All the best,
